About La Digue
The island of La Digue is the fourth largest inhabited island of the Seychelles in dimensions, as well as the third largest with regards to population. La Digue has an area of about 10 km². and a population close to 2,000. Almost all of the habitants of La Digue live in villages on the western side of the island called La Passe, and La Reunion. La Digue is named after a ship in the fleet of In 1768 the French explorer Marc-Joseph Marion du Fresne, La Digue is named after a ship of his fleet.
La Digue is among the most pristine and traditional islands within the entire archipelago. The gorgeous, relaxing beaches are ideal for taking walks, as well as snorkeling in the clear blue water and swimming. The beaches of Anse Source d'Argent, Anse Reunion, Grand Anse, Anse Severe, Petite Anse, Anse Coco are the most well known and beautiful beaches on La Digue. Veuve Nature Reserve, inside the island, hosts the very rare Black Paradise Flycatcher bird, of which there are no more than 100 in existence. La Digue's tallest hill, Belle Vue,has summit more than 300 meters above sea level.
